Who doesn’t love the summer months? This time of year is perfect for al fresco dining and we’re sure you’ve already been on at least one picnic so far in 2020… and if there’s one menu staple that has to be included it is, of course, the sandwich.
Fresh flavours are a must during the summer and one of the best things about the not-so-humble sandwich is that it’s so very versatile… you can come up with all sorts of interesting creations and concoctions.
But sometimes, simple is best and you can’t do much better than the flavours of Italy, stuffed into a delicious picnic baguette. Simply combine salami, basil, spinach, pesto and mozzarella, and you’re onto a winner. Sprinkle liberally with some crunchy pine nuts for a bit of pizzazz.
If you want to try something a little different, however, what about going for a katsu sando recipe or two, instead.
These are Japanese sandwiches and they’re truly yummy, made using either chicken or pork and some shredded cabbage, drizzled in tonkatsu sauce (which is ketchup, Worcestershire and soy sauces, vinegar, sugar and some mustard). You can have a lot of fun flattening the meat with your rolling pin, as well!
Or what about a vegan option with some kind of exotic ingredients like jackfruit. Check out this recipe on The Colorful Kitchen website to see how to put this sandwich together. It even requires a teaspoon of liquid smoke so your culinary skills will receive a serious boost!
